Hinduism describes Dharma as the natural universal laws whose observance enables humans to be contented and happy, and to save himself from degradation and suffering. Dharma is the moral law combined with spiritual discipline that guides one's life. Hindus consider Dharma the very foundation of life. Atharva Veda describes Dharma symbolically: Prithivim Dharmana dhritam, that is, "this world is upheld by Dharm. Worshipping of God, performing Shradhas to the eteronal soul of their clan is Swadharma of a Hindu as defined in Vedas, the ancient religious texts received by saints direct from God and passed on to the next generations by word of mouth.

What is Shradha and why it has so importance.

Performance of Shraddha by a son to the eternal soul is regarded as compulsory by Hindus, to ensure that the soul of the ancestor goes to heaven. The scripture Markandeya Purana says that if the ancestors are content with the shraddhas, they will bestow health, wealth, knowledge and longevity, and ultimately heaven and salvation (moksha) upon the performer. By performing tarpan, the deceased ancestors’ souls not only get satisfied and leave us, but they also bestow long life, radiance, superior intellect (brahmavarchaswa), wealth, success and foodstuff (ability to digest the food consumed) on the host performing the tarpan and satisfies him too. Tila tarpan means offering sesame seeds mixed in water to the deceased ancestors’ souls. Tila tarpan (as a part of Shraddha) should be offered to the same number of ancestors’ souls for whom the shraddha has been performed. Sesame seeds are the favorites of deceased ancestors’ souls. By usage of sesame seeds, the demons do not obstruct the ritual of Shraddha which is described as repaying the debt to ancestors and be reciprocated with their blessings.
